In line with my new charity cause of choice, please allow me to post this letter from the kind founder of Bale Anghel (House of Angels).
Greetings!
Bale Anghel is moving on to fulfill its mission to be a safe haven for street children. In this place they become children as they are supposed to — they have a chance to play and learn, to eat and sleep, to escape from the realities of each of their lives even for just a while.
As of October 2010, we have profiled approximately 52 street children whose ages range from youngest Axel who is 2 and Gilbert and Marco who are 12 years old . Not all these children stay at the Bale at the same time; they go in and out. They play for a few hours then go back out into the streets, because they say they need to beg. If they do not bring home some money to their parents they are bound to get hurt.
It pains me to hear this, but what strengthens me is the thought that we can stop the cycle. We can have good children even with delinquent parents. I’ve seen their transformation. When we started, some children were vulgar and unruly, but now they are respectful and obedient without losing their childlike ways. To God be all the glory!
My vision for Bale Anghel is to be able to give these children better lives, as simple as getting a birth certificate for Maryann who has been rejected to attend public school because of that, or like financing the dream of Daisy to become a teacher, or letting Edu sleep on a safer ground instead of the corner of a closed store. I’ll be honest, I have big dreams but I can do only so much. I wish to ask for your help — your time or resources can do so much.
We spend about P300.00/day for food. I wish to get a night shift administrator so that Bale Anghel can stay open at night. We need volunteer teachers to teach them to read, write and basic math. I also hope to give them and their parents alternative means of livelihood so they need not stay on the streets. If you have any ideas, I’d love to hear them.
May God bless you always.
Sincerely,
Joy L. Cruz
